Biography:
All started at Moscow 1980 at age of 19. Born in Barcelona on October 26, 1961, Estiarte showed his natural abilities from an early age, and has been a vital player for the Spanish men’s water polo team. In Moscow, ESP was fourth in the Olympic tournament, but his moment of glory was finally achieved in Atlanta 1996 where he got a gold medal. In between, Estiarte was 4th in Los Angeles 1984, 6th in Seoul 1988 and 2nd in his hometown Barcelona in 1992. Moreover, the Spanish player is the leading scorer in Olympic Games history. Married and living in Pescara (Italy), Manuel Estiarte (1,78m/62 kg) has also won the gold medal in the FINA World Championships in Perth 1998, after a second in the same competition in Rome 1994. In Sydney, he has been chosen by the Spanish Olympic Committee to be the delegation’s flag bearer at the Opening Ceremony. “That is very good for me, but more important it is very good for water polo”, stated Manuel Estiarte, who is four years older than anyone else on the Spanish team.
