Ποδόσφαιρο
Εκπρόσωποι από αρκετά ποδοσφαιρικά σωματεία του Λονδίνου συμμετέχουν στην πρώτη συνάντηση της Football Association, στην Ταβέρνα των Ελευθεροτεκτόνων στο Λονδίνο, με σκοπό την δημιουργία ενός κανονισμού ποδοσφαίρου. Συνολικά 6 συναντήσεις θα γίνουν μέχρι τις 8/12/1863 που θα παρουσιαστούν οι 14 Κανονισμοί του Ποδοσφαίρου. Παρότι ο όρος soccer πιστεύεται ότι προέρχεται από την σύντμηση δύο λέξεων: SOCial CERemony (κοινωνική εκδήλωση), ο όρος football φαίνεται να υιοθετήθηκε για να διαχωρίσει ότι το παιγνίδι παίζεται από πεζούς και όχι αναβάτες, όπως στο polo
Representatives of several football clubs in the London area participate at the inaugural meeting of the Football Association, at the Freemason’s Tavern on Great Queen Street in London, with the aim to establish a single unifying code of the game. Six meeting in total are going to take place until the 8th of December 1863, when the 14 laws of football are going to be presented. Although the term “soccer” is believed to derive from the words “SOCial CERemony”, the term football seems to have been adopted in order to distinguish the game played by players on foot and not on horses, like polo.
