Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες
Επανέρχονται μετά από 1611 χρόνια στο Στάδιο της Αρχαίας Ολυμπίας οι Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες με το αγώνισμα της σφαιροβολίας, που δεν υφίστατο όμως στην αρχαιότητα. Στους άνδρες χρυσός αναδεικνύεται ο Ουκρανός Γιούρι Μπίλονοχ με 21.16 και στις γυναίκες, οι οποίες αγωνίζονται για πρώτη φορά στο στάδιο αυτό, αφού απαγορευόταν η είσοδος τους στους αγώνες της αρχαιότητας, νικήτρια αναδεικνύεται η Κουβανή Γιουμιλέιντι Κούμπα (Yumileidi Cumba) με 19.59
