Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες
Ολοκληρώνονται οι 8οι Ολυμπιακοί Αγώνες στο Παρίσι που ξεκίνησαν στις 4 Μαϊου. Έλαβαν μέρος 2.954 αθλητές και 135 αθλήτριες από 44 κράτη σε 126 αγωνίσματα 17 αθλημάτων. Για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία των αγώνων εισάγεται το ολυμπιακό μότο “Citius, Altius, Fortius” (Γρηγορότερα, Υψηλότερα, Δυνατότερα) και για πρώτη φορά στην τελετή λήξης αναρτώνται 3 σημαίες: της Ολυμπιακής Επιτροπής, του διοργανωτή και του επόμενου διοργανωτή. Την πρώτη θέση στον πίνακα μεταλλίων καταλαμβάνουν οι ΗΠΑ με 99 (45 χρυσά, 27 αργυρά και 27 χάλκινα). Δεύτερη κατατάσεται η Φινλανδία με 37 (14-13-10) και τρίτη η Γαλλία με 38 (13-15-10)
The 8th Olympic Games close in Paris. They started on May, 4th with the participation of 3089 athletes from 44 NOCs in 126 events of 17 sports. For the first time in the history of the Games the Olympic motto, "Citius, Altius, Fortius", (Swifter, Higher, Stronger) is introduced, as is the Closing Ceremony ritual of raising three flags: the flag of the International Olympic Committee, the flag of the host nation and the flag of the next host nation. USA is placed first in the medals table with 99 (45 gold, 27 silver and 27 bronze), Finland is second with 37 (14-13-10) and France is third with 38 (13-15-10)
