Μαραθώνιος Δρόμος
Πεθαίνει σε ηλικία 77 ετών στη Φιλοθέη ο Στέλιος Κυριακίδης. Ο Κύπριος αθλητής μεγάλων αποστάσεων είχε ξεκινήσει τον αθλητισμό από την ΓΣ Ολύμπια Λεμεσού, αναδείχθηκε 6 φορές βαλκανιονίκης ενώ μετείχε με την Ελληνική ομάδα στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες το 1936 και το 1948. Σε ηλικία 36 ετών τερμάτισε πρώτος στον 50ο Μαραθώνιο της Βοστώνης με χρόνο 2.29.27. Κατά τη διάρκεια της κατοχής είχε συλληφθεί από τους Γερμανούς αλλά αφέθηκε ελεύθερος όταν έμαθαν ότι είχε συμμετάσχει στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του 1936.
Stelios Kyriakidis dies at the age of 77 years in Filothei, Athens. The Cypriot long distance runner started competing with Olympia Limassol, he was a Balkan games champion 6 times, while he participated at the Olympic Games of 1936 and 1948 with the Greek national team. At the age of 36, he finished first at the 50th Boston Marathon with 2.29.27. During the German occupation, he was captured by the Germans, but he was let go when they found out that he competed at the Munich Olympic Games of 1936.
