Ο Αλκέτας Παναγούλιας, ο προπονητής της Εθνικής Ομάδας Ποδοσφαίρου που οδήγησε για πρώτη φορά την Ελλάδα σε τελικά Euro το 1980 στην Ιταλία και σε Μουντιάλ το 1994 στις ΗΠΑ, πεθαίνει σε ηλικία 78 ετών, στο σπίτι του στη Βιρτζίνια των ΗΠΑ. Επίσης, διετέλεσε προπονητής του Ολυμπιακού με τον οποίο κατέκτησε τρία πρωταθλήματα αλλά και της Εθνικής ΗΠΑ. Ως παίκτης αγωνίστηκε με τον Άρη την δεκαετία του ’50 με τον οποίο κατέκτησε 2 πρωταθλήματα Θεσσαλονίκης σημειώνοντας 13 γκολ στο τοπικό πρωτάθλημα, 3 για το Κύπελλο Ελλάδος και 10 για το εθνικό πρωτάθλημα ενώ το 1962 πήγε στην Αμερική.
Alketas Panagoulias, the Greek association football player and manager, dies at the age of 78 at his home in Virginia, in the United States. He started his football career as a player for Aris Thessaloniki and then moved to the USA. He returned to Athens as the assistant coach of the Greece national football team, under the famous Northern Ireland coach Billy Bingham, in 1972. In the next year, he became Head Coach of the Greek National Football team until 1981, leading the team to the final stage of Euro 1980 and Mundial 1994. He also coached Olympiacos from 1981–1983, earning the championship title in 1982 and 1983 and he them moved back to the US to become the US national soccer team coach.
