Ο Αργεντινός παίκτης και προπονητής Αλφρέντο Ντι Στέφανο πεθαίνει σε ηλικία 88 ετών μετά από σοβαρή καρδιακή προσβολή. Αγωνίστηκε 11 χρόνια (1953-1964) με τα χρώματα της Ρεάλ όπου κατέκτησε 5 κύπελλα πρωταθλητριών (1956, 1957, 1958, 1959 και 1960), 8 πρωταθλήματα Ισπανίας (1954, 1955, 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1963 και 1964), 1 Κύπελλο (1962) και ένα Διηπειρωτικό το 1960. Νωρίτερα, είχε αναδειχτεί και πρωταθλητής Αργεντινής το 1947 με τη φανέλα της Ρίβερ Πλέιτ, ενώ ακολούθησαν και δύο πρωταθλήματα στην Κολομβία (1951 και 1953) με τη Μιγιονάριος. Ο Αργεντινός που κατάφερε να αγωνιστεί σε τρεις διαφορετικές εθνικές ομάδες (Αργεντινή, Κολομβία, Ισπανία) ήταν επίτιμος πρόεδρος της Ρεάλ Μαδρίτης, ενώ κατέκτησε τη «χρυσή μπάλα» το 1957 και το 1959, παράλληλα στις εντυπωσιακές διακρίσεις του υπάρχουν οι τίτλοι του κορυφαίου αθλητή της Ισπανίας τις χρονιές 1957, 1959, 1960 και 1964.
Argentine-Spanish footballer and coach, Alfredo di Stéfano widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, dies at the age of 88 of a heart attack. He played with Real Madrid for 11 years (1953-1964) where he won 5 European Champions' Cup (1956, 1957, 1958, 1959 and 1960), 8 Spanish Championships (1954, 1955, 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1963 και 1964), 1 Spanich Cup (1962) and 1 Intercontinental Cup (1960). In 1947 he won the championship title with Argentinian River Plate and in 1951 and 1953 he won 2 Colombian Championships with Millionaros. Di Stefano, who managed to play with three national teams (Argentina, Colombia and Spain), was honourary president of Real Madrid while he won the Ballon d'Or in 1957 and 1959 and the title of the “Best Athlete” in Spain in 1957, 1959, 1960 and 1964. In March 2004, he was named by Pelé as one of the "top 125 greatest living footballers".
