Rooney scores against Reading in the third round of the FA Cup to equal Sir Bobby Charlton as Manchester United's top goalscorer of all time. Rooney's goal is his 249th in 543 games for Manchester United, reaching the landmark in 215 matches and four seasons quicker than Sir Bobby. On 21 January 2017, Rooney will finally surpass Sir Bobby Charlton to become the outright leading scorer for Manchester United after scoring his 250th goal for the club and the equaliser from a free kick against Stoke City in the game's final minutes to secure a 1–1 draw.
