Στο 35′ του αγώνα κι ενώ η Λαμία προηγείται με 1-0, ο Κολοβός σουτάρει και η μπάλα χτυπά εντός περιοχής στο απλωμένο χέρι του Πλιάτσικα. Ο διαιτητής Σκουλάς δείχνει να συνεχιστεί το παιχνίδι αλλά λαμβάνει ειδοποίηση από την ομάδα του VAR και τον επικεφαλής Γιώργο Κομίνη. Βλέποντας τη φάση στην οθόνη του VAR, διορθώνει την απόφασή του καταλογίζοντας πέναλτι υπέρ του Παναθηναϊκού, καταγράφοντας την πρώτη παρέμβαση του VAR στο ελληνικό πρωτάθλημα. Ο Μακέντα δεν έχασε την ευκαιρία και ευστόχησε από τη βούλα του πέναλτι.
