Με το σύνθημα “apartheid is not cricket” και “ban racist tours” υποδέχονται τον αρχηγό της Εθνικής Αγγλίας Mike Gatting και 15 παίκτες που τον συνοδεύουν, 700 διαδηλωτές που έχουν συγκεντρωθεί στο αεροδρόμιο Jan Smuts του Γιοχάνεσμπουργκ για να διαμαρτυρηθούν για την άφιξη των παικτών στην αποκλεισμένη αθλητικά Νότιο Αφρική. Ανάμεσά τους βρίσκεται και η Winnie Mandela, σύζυγος του φυλακισμένου Nelson Mandela, που τρεις εβδομάδες μετά, στις 11/2/1990 θα αποφυλακιστεί
