Ο Robert James “Bobby” Fisher πεθαίνει από νεφρική ανεπάρκεια σε ηλικία 65 ετών στο σπίτι του στο Ρέικιαβικ. Ο Αμερικανός γκρανμάστερ στο σκάκι, που είχε κερδίσει τον Boris Spassky στις 1/9/1972, είχε αποσυρθεί εδώ και 30 χρόνια και μετά την σύλληψή του στο Τόκυο για αντιαμερικανικές και αντισημιτικές δηλώσεις είχε μετακομίσει στην Ισλανδία το 2005, όπου παρέμεινε μέχρι τον θάνατό του.
Robert James “Bobby” Fisher dies from kidney failure at the age of 65 in his home in Reykjavik. The American chess grandmaster, who defeated Boris Spassky on 1/9/1972, had disappeared from the chess scene for about 30 years and after his arrest in Tokyo for anti-American and anti-Semitic statements, he moved to Iceland in 2005, where he stayed until his death.
