Η Αμερικανίδα προπονήτρια του μπάσεκτ, Pat Summitt που είχε διαγνωστεί με Αλτσχάιμερ πριν 5 χρόνια, πεθαίνει σε ηλικία 64 ετών. Η Pat Summitt είχε οδηγήσει τα κορίτσια του πανεπιστημίου του Τενεσί στην κατάκτηση οκτώ πρωταθλημάτων (1987, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2007, 2008), πίσω από τα 10 του John Wooden, προπονητή της ανδρικής ομάδας του UCLA, και τα 11 της Geno Auriemma προπονήτριας της γυναικείας ομάδας του UConn, πήγε μαζί τους σε 18 Φάιναλ Φορ, έχει τις περισσότερες νίκες (1.098) έναντι 208 ηττών, πήρε το βραβείο του προπονητή της χρονιάς στο γυναικείο πρωτάθλημα εφτά φορές (1983, 1987, 1989, 1994, 1995, 1998, 2004), το χρυσό μετάλλιο στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του Λος Άντζελες το 1984 με την εθνική ομάδα γυναικών των ΗΠΑ, κατέκτησε το αντίστοιχο Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα το 1979 στη Σεούλ και το 2000 εντάχτηκε στο Hall of Fame.
American Pat Summitt, the winningest college basketball head coach in D1 history, dies at 64, five years and two months after being diagnosed with early onset dementia, Alzheimer's type. Summitt helped grow college women's basketball by serving as the head coach of the University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team from 1974 to 2012, winning eight NCAA championships (an NCAA women's record when she retired), and surpassed only by the 10 titles won by UCLA men's coach John Wooden and the 11 titles won by UConn women's coach Geno Auriemma. She was the first NCAA coach, and one of four college coaches overall, to achieve at least 1,000 wins. She achieved 1,098-208 in 38 seasons plus 18 NCAA Final Four appearances. Summitt also won an Olympic Gold medal as head coach of the 1984 U.S. women's basketball team, and was named the Naismith Basketball Coach of the Century in April 2000. In 2012, Summitt was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama. She received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the 2012 ESPY Awards.
