Ο Αμερικανός συνθέτης σκακιστικών προβλημάτων, δημιουργός γρίφων και μαθηματικός, Sam Loyd, πεθαίνει στην ηλικία των 70 ετών. Ήταν ένας από τους καλύτερους παίκτες αλλά έγινε διάσημος για της πονηρές συνθέσεις σκακιστικών προβλημάτων. Υποστηρίζει ότι εφύηρε το “fifteen puzzle” (τον γρίφο-παιγνίδι με τα 15 κομμάτια σε ένα μεγάλο τετράγωνο, όπου ένα κομμάτι λείπει) και ήταν φανατικός των γρίφων “Tangram”.
Sam Loyd, the American chess composer, puzzle author and mathematician, dies at the age of 70. At his peak, he was one of the best players in the world, but he became famous for his witty compositions of chess problems. He claimed that he invented the “fifteen puzzle” (i.e. the puzzle with 15 pieces in a big square where one is missing) and he was an enthusiast of “Tangram puzzles”.
