Την πρώτη του συμμετοχή με εργοστασιακό αυτοκίνητο την είχε με την ομάδα της Subaru, τo 1993, ήταν μάλιστα και ο νεαρότερος οδηγός που είχε κερδίσει το ράλλυ της πατρίδας του. Aγωνίστηκε ακόμα με την ομάδα της Mitsubishi και της Peugeot

In 1993 he joined the Subaru Rally Team for the British Championship alongside Alistair McRae where he won 4 Rallies becoming the youngest British Champion that year.
