Ο Γάλλος δημοσιογράφος Pierre Giffard πεθαίνει σε ηλικία 68 ετών. Χρίστηκε Ιππότης της Λεγεώνας της Τιμής και δημιούργησε τον ποδηλατικό αγώνα Paris-Brest-Paris καθώς και τον Μαραθώνιο Tours de Paris. Ήταν εκδότης της ημερησίας αθλητικής εφημερίδας “Le Velo”, αλλά η υπερβολική του υποστήριξη στον Alfred Dreyfus είχε σαν αποτέλεσμα το κλείσιμο της και την γέννηση της “L’Auto”, προγόνου της “Le Equipe”.
French journalist Pierre Giffard dies at the age of 68. He was appointed Chevalier of the Legion d’ Honneur and he created the Paris-Brest-Paris cycle race in 1891 and the Tours de Paris Marathon in 1896. He was the editor of the sports daily “Le Velo”. However, his passionate support for Alfred Dreyfus caused the paper’s demise and the birth of “L’Auto” ancestor of “Le Equipe”.
